The Dolphins trailed in the fourth quarter for the first time since Game 3. Cleveland's Mike Phipps hit Fair Hooker with a 27-yard touchdown pass to give the Browns a 14-13 lead with 8:11 remaining. Miami drove 80 yards on six plays with Jim Kiick carrying the ball the final 8 yards for the winning touchdown. "We had to score to win and our team got the ball with 80 yards to go and got the touchdown," coach Don Shula said. "It's an example of the way our football team has responded all season." Doug Swift ended a Browns comeback bid with an interception with 1:15 to play, deep in Dolphins territory.
