The victory was a complete effort on both sides of the ball. Larry Csonka rushed for 102 yards on 18 carries, Bob Griese completed 15 of 27 passes for 220 yards, the defense had a goal-line stand and Garo Yepremian kicked two field goals. Howard Twilley stepped in for injured Otto Stowe, catching four passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins scored 17 straight points after trailing 7-0 in the first quarter. The turning point came with the Jets at the Dolphins' 1-yard line, first-and-goal. The defense stopped the Jets to force a field goal. "Any time you've got first down and six inches to go and have to settle for a field goal, you've got a problem," Joe Namath said. "It takes something out of you."
